Beltane ~ How we celebrate

Here in the northern countries we have long traditions of this ancient spring celebration, called by many for Beltane. For us we know it by the name Valborg or Walpurgisnacht, or simply the night to the 1st of May. This day for me means spring has truly arrived! There are usually a couple of weeks until leaves are seen on the trees and things start looking a bit green, but you can find spring flowers adorning the ground and birds chirping all around in the trees.

So this is the time to light bonfires and celebrate spring and fertility, with a feeling of hope and joy for the upcoming spring and summer. It is a wonderful occasion to spend some quality time with your true love, or to find your life partner if you don’t have one already 😉 What they say is true, romance is all around at this time of year, both in nature and in the human society. Spend the night with good food and good company, dress up in bright and warm enough clothing (I always wear white and green), adorn yourself with spring flowers and dance around the campfire with some inspiring music, like this tune made by Faun, the video is SO beautiful!:

You don’t have to be a pagan to celebrate spring. Spring is worth celebrating whatever your personal believes are. In Norway it is extremely common to party this night (often in nature), but personally I prefer to party with a deeper meaning.

Us, feeling like a May queen and king 😉

Do you celebrate spring or beltane?
